Beyoncé Won, Drake Lost, and More from the VMAs

Breaking news, trending stories, industry intel.

This is The S/ List.

1. Beyoncé dominated both the red carpet and stage at the VMAs.

“It almost felt like Beyoncé was receiving the Video Vanguard Award all over again as she moved across the entire stage of Madison Square Garden. In her live rendition of half of Lemonade (can we please make it into a Broadway musical?), the singer was surrounded by a circle of fire, spat straight at a camera, and included an appearance of her infamous “Hot Sauce” bat.”

2. Drake professed his love for Rihanna and it was amazing and uncomfortable.

“During the awards show Sunday, he took the stage, clad in black tuxedo, and proceeded to melt everyone watching into a puddle of romantic wistfulness with a heartfelt presentation of the VMAs high honour.”

3. Kayne is still talking about Taylor Swift.

“Kanye West took the VMA stage Sunday night having been given four minutes to do whatever he pleased — and given the rapper’s penchant for controversy, people expected something revolutionary — even shocking.”

4. The entire world is wondering who Teyana Taylor is.

“Meow! Kanye West introduced the world to a new vixen during the 2016 MTV VMAs on Sunday, August 28. The rapper placed the spotlight on Teyana Taylor, a 25-year-old Harlem-born singer who works her stuff in West’s new “Fade” music video, which he debuted during the awards show.”

5. Britney is back, sort of.

“Will it be remembered as her greatest VMA performance of all time? Probably not. But damn, it’s good to see Britney smiling again.”
