As the sun slowly retreated westward over Etobicoke on a balmy summer evening—already in its wistful final stretch—a transportive retro-tinged soiree enlivened the evening to a jovial effect. To celebrate its 40 years in business, as well as its vault collection featured in an editorial in the fall issue of S/, Humbertown Jewellers, alongside Contempo Media, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and S/, feted these fineries with flair.
Guest speakers included Mr. Ferit Tecimer, owner of Humbertown Jewellers; Sahar Nooraei, Editor-in-Chief of S/; Dr Tim Rutledge, President and CEO of Unity Health Toronto; and Dr Joan Cheng, Chief of the SJHC Emergency Department. The event doubled as an acknowledgment of St. Joseph’s Health Centre and the indisputable selflessness of healthcare professionals.
An ’80s inspired photo booth, where clients could take pictures donning these illustrious jewels, provided entertaining visual keepsakes, while Etch-A-Sketches, Rubik’s Cubes, and nostalgic confectionaries were given as party favours. Delectable appetizers and specialty cocktails were served by waiters donning teased wigs, harkening back to the kitschy aesthetics of the era.
Gatherings like this emphasize and reinforce the importance of community and saluting the contribution of healthcare heroes.
