TIFF Takes Off at the S/ Magazine Festival Gala

It didn’t take long for S/ magazine’s Festival Gala to fill up with the city’s film and fashion lovers last night. Situated on King Street West, guests were invited to partake in an evening of film, fashion, and fun, while celebrating both TIFF and S/ magazine’s fall book, The Film Issue, starring Marion Cotillard.

Attendees were invited to “test-drive” a Harley Davidson (a stationary apparatus that allowed riders to experience the power of the bike indoors), taste The Balvenie’s fine whiskies straight from the cask, and spritz themselves with the latest offering from Prada fragrances, La Femme Prada, and L’Homme Prada.

Legend VR brought the world of Stan Lee’s Cosmic Crusaders to life with a virtual reality experience, and for guests who preferred a non-virtual thrill, the Volvo Lounge offered guests a chance to make themselves comfortable in a brand new Volvo S90, with its Hammer of Thor-inspired headlights. Chopard joined the fun with a curated case of icy watches and jewellery meant for trying on while Hermès, Céline, Lacoste, and Holt Renfrew came together to show off a costume inspired by the iconic Margot Tenenbaum of Wes Anderson’s 2001 film. Anchoring the room, artist Christopher Wahl displayed Icons in Film, a collection of portraits of the industry’s biggest names.

Once the clock struck midnight, attentions shifted to the film: I Am Not Madame Bovary. The film’s star (and our guest of honour) Fan Bingbing celebrated the film’s Toronto premiere with S/ along with an entourage of cast and crew.

At the evening’s end, guests went home with the latest issues of S/, Sharp, and Sharp: The Book for Men, along with an assortment of gifts from some of our favourite brands. Gift bags included deluxe samples of Prada’s newest fragrances (for both women and men), a mini Burberry Kisses lipstick (perfect for squeezing into a party-ready clutch), Tweezerman tweezers, facial cleanser from Nuxe, body lotion from Vichy, hand and foot masks from TheFaceShop, and a set of hair-mending products by Orofluido.
