Thom Browne Is Bringing Back the Tuxedo Shirt

You know those novelty tees that are meant to look like a tuxedo? Or even, the ones with a woman’s body in a bikini? You know, the shirts you can buy on the boardwalk or at a fair. Well, Thom Browne just applied that idea to his entire spring 2017 collection.

At first glance, the models appeared to be in bright, borderline retro layered ensembles, but after taking a few steps, it was clear that the garments were not moving; they were in fact illusions created by patterns and textures. So, while the collection feigned jackets, skirts, blouses, and trousers via colour-blocking and embellishment, every single piece was actually a dress. The only difference here between those laughable shirts and Thom Browne’s take on it, is that he does it so well.
