Shopbop’s Fashion Director Caroline Maguire Talks Trends for Fall 2019

New York Fashion Week has always set the tone for fashions biggest trends and boldest statements. As the week winds down, we had the chance to speak with Shopbop’s Fashion Director, Caroline Maguire, on the brands she’s loving right now and what to expect to see for the future of fall fashion.

What are some standout fashion and accessories trends coming out of NYFW for Fall/Winter 2019?

“This fall is all about bold prints, detailed accessories, unexpected textures, and statement-making outerwear. We’re seeing small box bags, chunky-heeled knee-high boots, print mixing in ready-to-wear, textured outwear, and oversized jewellery. ‘More is more’ definitely applies this season!”

How do you decide what to wear to the shows? What was your favourite outfit during NYFW?

“Comfort is key during fashion week. Running between shows and market appointments calls for both clothing and accessories to be comfortable above all else. I love to support designers whose show I’m attending, so I try to wear something from their latest collection that we carry on Shopbop. My favourite outfit this season was my Rachel Comey skirtAcne sweater, and Adam Lippes coat. It was equal parts comfortable and more importantly-warm!”

Were there any new brands that caught your eye?

“At Shopbop we pride ourselves on finding new and emerging talent and strive to be a daily resource for style inspiration and discovery. We recently launched Rosetta Getty, a brand with an understated modern luxury approach, Khaite denim offering a fresh approach to denim, and Maison Irem who’s known for their bold colours and playful take on shell-jewellery. We have quite a few new brands launching this season, so you’ll have to check Shopbop later this month to see!”

What sets NYFW apart from other major fashion weeks? What makes New York such a great backdrop for fashion?

“The energy in New York is unmatched. It’s where new talent and emerging designers are inspired, created, and embraced. NYFW has long been the event to kickstart the season, but the way brands are able to connect with consumers during this time is more important than ever, and NY encourages that.”
