On July 3rd, Karl Lagerfeld recreated a stroll down the Seine for a loving ode to the book lovers and literature of Paris in CHANEL’s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018 collection at the Grand Palais. The colour palette—made up of pale grey, black, navy, gold and silver—are reflections of Paris in autumn, the rooftops, asphalt, and the moon, paired with the white and beige of the clouds and the green of the historic buildings. Even the fabric and detailing were made to mimic the unique and historic aspects of the city. Karl Lagerfeld believes “Haute Couture is Paris,” which is fully reflected in this collection. The new CHANEL ambassador Penélope Cruz was in attendance along with ambassadors Lily-Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis, Pharrell Williams, Caroline de Maigret, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, and Canadian singer Charlotte Cardin. The show came to a close with Adut Akech embodying Lagerfeld’s bride in a green wedding suit that glistened from the sunlight beaming on the runway.
