Our Met Gala Predictions

With the Met Gala, i.e. the party of the year, only hours away, we can’t help but wonder – and predict – what technologically advanced designs will be seen on the Manus x Machina red carpet.

Area:

We think Area’s unique mix of embellishment, manipulated textiles, and structured shapes will make it to the gala – perhaps in the company of crystal manicures and shimmering shoes. The meticulous attention to detail make this modern line an easy fit for this year’s theme.

Comme des Garçons:

Rei Kawakubo’s collection is innovation at its finest, giving us reason to believe we will see Comme des Garçons tonight. With broad, geometric shoulders and exaggerated fits, these show-stopping looks are sure to make an appearance.

Issey Miyake:

The Costume Institute’s Manus x Machina exhibition features a room dedicated solely to pleating, which is Issey Miyake’s forte, to say the least. His collection, featuring pieces made entirely of narrow, overlapped pleats create detailed masterpieces reminiscent of kaleidoscopes.

J.W Anderson:

As technology is being celebrated at this year’s Met Gala, J.W. Anderson’s collection is worth noting, as it showcases cutting-edge methods and precision in fabrics and textures.

Junya Watanabe:

Through modern technology and laser cutting, Junya Watanabe compiled countless geometric shapes to create a line of artful masterpieces – and nothing screams Met Gala quite like wearable art.

Mary Katrantzou:

Mary Katrantzou’s inimitable FW16 collection includes patterns, bejewelling, lacework, and tulle. Any one of these looks are destined to appear as they would not be possible without the involvement of technology.
