Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2025 Collection is All About Contrast

The Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2025 collection is all about contrast, but within this contrast lies harmony and movement. From this, a divergence narrative swiftly manifested itself on the Paris Fashion Week runway, where the phenomenon entranced celebrities like Cynthia Erivo, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, and Zendaya.

The show notes declare that French fashion mirrors a form of “soft power”, which embodies the traditions of saviour-faire and art de vivre. But interestingly enough, the term itself is an oxymoron. Louis Vuitton unravels the polarity to understand how to reconcile the seemingly opposing concepts of softness and power to reveal a collection of contrasts.

Set at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, one of the main courtyards of the Louvre Palace, a large mirrored tent reflecting the beautiful surroundings welcomed guests to the recurring brand hosting space. Inside this reflective building was a vibrant runway made from LV monograms and trunk visuals, creating a colourful trail of the brand’s signature symbols.

The creative director of Louis Vuitton’s women’s division, Nicolas Ghesquière, is celebrated for his ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. He has a track record of channelling futurism or utopic undertones while exploring gender fluidity. True to his nature, those nods again appeared on the Spring/Summer 2025 runway.

Featuring striking silhouettes and vibrant colours, Ghesquière did not shy away from fusing craftsmanship with modernity. Patterns and textures were highlighted to offer another layer of depth and buoyancy. Innovative ensembles of striped exaggerated shoulders took centre stage. Meanwhile, shoes are exaggerated and ornate, leaving behind a bold trail. They are polished but sculptural, with accompanying mismatched leather scraps.

Futuristic elements and avant-garde touches are sprinkled throughout the collection. Metallic finishes, gemstones, exaggerated balloon sleeves, chaotic patterns, extra-long necklaces, and mismatched layering prove the diverse possibilities when boundaries are stretched.

Despite these experimental takes, the brand’s heritage lingers. Oversized classic Louis Vuitton bags serve as focal points for some outfits. At the same time, peplums have emerged, offering a contrast in sizing, further electrifying the “soft power” momentum.

Beyond the clothing, selected pieces feature the pictorial works of artist Laurent Grasso, showcasing five paintings from his series “Studies into the Past.” On the other hand, the musical accompaniment includes a blend of four tracks from Jamie xx’s new album, “In Waves.”.

Celebrating a tenth anniversary with the brand, Ghesquière sets out to explore a narrative through clothing. The dynamic, forward-thinking approach merges to offer pieces with architectural consideration and character without jeopardizing craftsmanship and heritage.
