Some collaborations make headlines; this one makes memories. Gap and Awake NY, the downtown New York brand founded by Queens native Angelo Baque, have joined forces on a collection that feels less like a fashion moment and more like a love letter to a city and an era that shaped how a generation got dressed.
Baque grew up in Queens in the ’90s, when Gap was as much a part of the New York uniform as Timberlands and a MetroCard. That feeling is the whole foundation of this collection. Rather than simply putting two logos together, the collaboration reinterprets Gap’s most iconic essentials through Awake NY’s graphic-driven, community-rooted lens. The result is something that feels genuinely nostalgic without trying too hard to be.

Think oversized GapSweats fleece, reimagined denim, cargo silhouettes, bold polka dots, and colourful plaids. There’s also an athletic jersey, a limited-edition Gap x Awake NY New York Mets hat made with ’47 Brand, and an exclusive co-branded blanket. Prices run from $18 to $268, which means there’s an entry point for everyone, exactly the kind of democratic spirit both brands were built on.
Shot by Elissa Salas and HIDJI WORLD, the campaign is as much about people as it is about clothes. It features Baque and his family alongside New York creatives, including the team behind Frenchette, Potluck Club co-owner Cory NG, and artists Planta Industrial. The through line is family, both the one you’re born into and the one you build. For a collection rooted in community, it’s the right call.
The Gap x Awake NY collection is available now at gap.com and at select Gap stores including Times Square and Flatiron in New York, with limited styles available at the Awake NY flagship. Follow @gap and @awakenewyorkclothing for updates.
