It was an emotional show in Milan as FENDI showed their Women’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection, which holds extra importance as it is the final collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld, who passed on February 19th, days before the show. With details such as ‘Karligraphy’ in the FF logo monogram, designed by Karl in 1981, and his signature collars filling the runway, this collection will live on with his legacy. Another large factor in this collection was the focus on accessories and the new elements they bring to each look. The models and Silvia Venturini Fendi fought back emotion as they stayed strong to celebrate Karl during the show, with music from Karl’s longtime friend and collaborator, Michel Gaubert, filling the room.
“The bond between Karl Lagerfeld and FENDI is fashion’s longest love story, one that will continue to touch our lives for years to come. I am profoundly saddened by his passing and deeply touched by his constant care and perseverance until the very end. When we called just a few days before the show, his only thoughts were on the richness and beauty of the Collection. It’s a true testament to his character. He shall be so missed.” – Silvia Venturini Fendi.
