Dior’s Latest Haute Couture Collection Honours India’s Art and Traditional Embroidery

Dior hosted its Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022 collection in the gardens of Musée Rodin in Paris. The walls were adorned with paintings by two of India’s most renowned artists, Madhvi and Manu Parekh. The couple create work routed in two different ideals: Madhvi’s paintings portray an imaginary, dreamike world, while Manu’s work invites the viewer into mental landscapes with a more spiritual approach. This inspired the way Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri designs took shape for Dior’s latest haute couture collection, mixing ultra-femininity with clean-cut tailoring that challenged traditional boundaries. Precious embroideries, another aspect of Indian visual culture heavily influencing the garments, made a grand statement within the collection, emphasizing the atelier’s handiwork with divine detailing. The front row was filled with stars donning Dior, including Lady Amelia Windsor, Rosamund Pike, and Léna Mahfouf.
