This spring, Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity makes its North American premiere at the Dallas Museum of Art. The exhibition uncovers the influence of Islamic art, architecture, and jewellery— including items pulled from Louis Cartier’s personal collection of Persian and Indian art dating back to the early 20th century—on the Maison’s esteemed designers. The Dallas Museum of Art worked with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs—in collaboration with Musée du Louvre and Musée Cartier—bringing over 400 objects from the holdings of local and international collections. Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) handled the design of the exhibition, creating an opportunity for an up-close look Cartier’s fineries and the inspiration behind them through a selection of archival photos, drawings, and Islamic artwork. The Cartier and Islamic Art exhibition will be on display at DMA from May 14th to September 18th, 2022.
