The London-based fashion brand COS has returned to New York Fashion Week, unveiling its Autumn/Winter 2024 mainline and ATELIER collections at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Drawing inspiration from contemporary culture and arts, the collection seamlessly blends elegance with modernity to offer quiet luxury staples.
Before the show, COS started its adventure by having several guests arrive by boat at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. That experience was only the beginning of the whirlwind that awaited at the industrial warehouse.
The show started with models walking through a sculptural maze, where 43 looks were showcased backdropped against classical music. This season, nature influenced the collection with tactile surfaces, construction, and an earthy, rich colour palette that brought it to life. Notable guests in attendance included Emily Ratajkowski, Chloe Sevigny, Emma Roberts, Issa Rae, Kim Young-dae, and Pruk Panich. Meanwhile, it-girls like Amelia Grey rocked an all-black look on the runway.
From elevated essentials to innovative designs, the dedication to quality is evident in standout pieces with modern tailoring throughout the womenswear mainline. Trouser suits with softened structures and oversized, fluid silhouettes reimagine the structural possibilities.
Elegantly refined sheer separates and floor-length dresses are featured alongside relaxed wool coordinates, duffle coats, smooth leather jackets, and shearling—all of which make it surprising that COS is likely the most affordable brand showcasing at New York Fashion Week.
With green hues enhanced by rich textures, COS‘s signature contemporary city chicness was displayed on the Brooklyn catwalk. Heritage fabrics and traditional designs are reimagined through modernist cuts, hardware embellishments, and innovative layering techniques.
From a menswear perspective, COS focused on reinventing classic wardrobe staples. This collection includes barrel-leg trousers cut to fit the body loosely, paired with oversized jackets with leather detailing, beautifully balancing the two worlds of casualness but luxe.
The show also marked the debut of the Autumn Winter 2024 COS Atelier collection, which draws inspiration from the elegance and fluidity of movement channelled by ballet. Following this creative influence, the way the softened tailor pieces dance on the runway with layering and movement signifies a tactile and purposeful momentum, available from October onwards.
Rooted in luxury design, sustainability practices, and quality craftsmanship, COS has mastered the art of quiet luxury and elevated basics without the sticker shock. Existing as an extension of H&M, this pricing is synonymous with the conglomerate and proves the harmony of quality design and value.
This is the brand’s third runway show, and it’s still new to the New York Fashion Week roster, making it not only fascinating but also innovative to have an accessible brand disrupting the catwalk and fashion conversation.
