8 Women-Founded Beauty and Wellness Brands You Need to Know This International Women’s Day

Every day is a good day to support women, but International Women’s Day reminds us just how important it is to seek out and support women-founded companies. So, in the spirit of celebrating women, we’re highlighting some women who own, have founded, or run their own beauty and wellness brands. These companies might not be on your radar yet, but they’ll quickly become your new favourites and absolutely deserve your support.

SEEN is a hair care brand founded by Harvard-trained dermatologist Dr. Iris Rubin. SEEN believes that hair care is skincare and provides hair products that are safe for those with sensitive, acne-prone, and eczema-prone skin.

Blume by Taran and Bunny

Approximately 60% of women say their self-esteem plummeted during puberty. Blume aims to change that. Co-founded by sisters Taran and Bunny, Blume aims to make self-care easier and healthier while de-stigmatizing normal things like acne, puberty, periods, and sex education.

In 2014, Laura Schubert saw an untapped market in the beauty industry: pubic hair. Together with her childhood best friend, Lillian Tung, they created Fur. The brand is on a mission to redefine personal care, giving everyone an option to care for the hair on their body instead of removing it.

19/99 by Camille Katona & Stephanie Spence

In a youth-obsessed industry that too often exploits personal insecurities, 19/99 is shaping a new narrative where individuals can define their image of beauty—whether you’re 19 or 99. Co-founded by Camille Katona and Stephanie Spence, 19/99’s multi-use essentials are designed for building, blending, buffing, smudging, and doing what you want.

MANJULA by Mamta & Karishma Pranjivan

MANJULA Essentials was founded by a mother-daughter duo whose family has practiced Ayurvedic rituals for generations. Growing up with eczema and highly sensitive skin, Karishma Pranjivan struggled with harsh creams, fleeting beauty trends, and ingredient lists that did more harm than good. When her mother, Mamta, an Ayurvedic practitioner, shared her own mother’s homemade hair oil recipe, Karishma began experimenting. Together, they developed three genderless, non-sensitizing treatment oils: a Hair Oil, Body Oil, and Face Oil, each designed to treat all skin and hair types.

JEMS by Whitney Geller & Yasemin Emory

While looking for contraception options between pregnancies, Yasemin Emory and Whitney Geller noticed a void in the condom aisle. They found that traditional condom packaging reflected an outdated notion of sexuality and did not appeal to conscious consumers. They created JEMS, a truly simple, non-toxic condom that’s inclusive, effective, and aesthetic.

DedCool by Carina Chaz

You’ve likely heard of the viral Xtra Milk Fragrance. And for good reason—it smells delicious.  Founded by Carina Chaz, DedCool is Gen Z’s favourite new fragrance brand. Growing up alongside her mother as a beauty formulator, Carina created DedCool in an attempt to modernize the rigidity of today’s modern fragrance industry.
