For Dior’s Fall/Winter Haute Couture Show, Creative and Image Director Peter Philips created a makeup look that enhanced the complexion. Utilizing the brand’s Prestige line to hydrate the skin, Philips opted for subtle nude tones to create a natural, radiant glow. We caught up backstage with Philips at Musée Rodin, where he revealed the hero Dior Beauty products he used to create the beauty look for the show and why Haute Couture is such a unique show to work on.
How would you best describe the inspiration for the makeup looks you created for this show?
“It’s a very natural and fresh look. The main keyword is purity. Today’s it’s about glorifying each individual beauty. To start, I used the Dior Prestige line to moisturize because it’s very rich and very shiny. And then I used Dior Forever Matte Foundation because the glow on the skin can become too shiny and you lose the effect of the blush. After foundation, I used Dior Addict lipstick in two shades: 558 Boi de Rose and 720 Icône. I enhanced the eyebrows with the Diorshow On Set Brow, and curled the roots of the lashes with mascara for a bit of volume, and a bit of eyeshadow on the eyelids from the Nude Dentelle palette.
What makes haute couture such a special show to work on?
“It’s a celebration of craftsmanship. They use old school craftsmanship such as embroideries. The way they mold the volumes on the mannequin–it’s not ready-to-wear. It’s a privilege for a privileged few. And I think that’s what makes it special, it makes you dream. It’s untouchable, unreachable, but at the same time can an inspiration for things you wear in daytime.”
If you had to choose three hero products for this show, what would they be?
“For this show go for the Dior Addict. It’s a great lipstick with a fantastic formula, it’s a high gloss and has great shine. You can even use all the shades as a blush if you want. But the Dior Addict 558 Boi de Rose or 720 Icône are nice because there’s no sparkle in it. So they kind of blend in and give this natural effect. And then for the great skin, go for the Dior Prestige La Micro-Huile de Rose combined with the Dior Forever Matte Foundation.”
