8 Of This Year’s Biggest Trends in Beauty, Hair and Skincare

Take a look back at the eight biggest and best beauty trends that took over in 2024. From Wicked‘s pink-and-green frenzy to the resurgence of indie sleaze grunde beauty—this year has taken us on quite the ride. Whether you loved it—or loathed it, it’s safe to say that it was quite the year for beauty trends.

So, sit back and take a stroll down memory lane at the biggest trends in makeup and hair from the year.

Ethereal Sparkles

Yes, the press tour for Wicked feels like it’s been happening for years. But beyond the tears, the space held, and the charismatic duo of Johnathan Bailey and Jeff Goldblum, the fashion and beauty looks have been incredible. Channelling the Witches of Oz, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have each been incorporating sparkles in their beauty looks—a trend we’ve also seen on runways like Thom Browne’s FW show in Paris.

Chic Bobs

2024 seems to be the year that the celebrities went short. Ayo Edibiri and Zendaya both sported bobs of varying lengths at award ceremonies this year. And after going blonde for a moment, Kendall Jenner went shorter than ever—sporting a chic bob, after returning to her natural brown colour.

Bold Lips

Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan may have both been the breakout pop girlies of the year, but the two have more in common than being able to make hit records. This year, we saw each of them consistently choosing a bold lip—often a deep red or burgundy paired with lip liner. And models at Anna Sui’s Fall 2024 show did the same, wearing gorgeous deep plum lipstick on the runway.

Grit & Grunge

Opposite to the clean-girl aesthetic that’s been dominant the past couple of years, this year we saw the return of grunge with models on various runways, including Gucci and Tom Ford, sporting bold, dark, winged eyeliner on the lids and waterline.

Wistful Waves

Laid-back, clean, wavy, ethereal hair was popular on red carpets and runways all year long. So it comes as no surprise that we’ve seen more celebrities opting for a slightly messy, tossed-out-of-bed look rather than ultra-sleek hair when off-duty.

Blush, Blush, and More Blush

As long as Hailey Bieber keeps releasing new shades of her viral pocket blushes, we don’t see this trend going away. Just like last year, celebrities, influencers, and models like Toni Bravo and Jasmine Tookes all leaned into a generous application of blush on the cheeks.

Deep Side Parts

Don’t freak out—these aren’t the side parts of the early 2000s. The side parts we saw this year are considered structural. Look to the models at JW Anderson and Missoni—and celebs like Taylor Russell, Gabbriette, and Kylie Jenner for inspo.

Bare-Faced Beauty

Perhaps the most wholesome makeup trend we saw this year? None at all. Actress and model, Pamela Anderson has gone bare-faced on multiple red carpets this year. And Miu Miu’s models walked down the SS25 runway seemingly makeup-free, too.
