Our 15th anniversary issue arrives on the heels of a particularly significant cultural moment. The week we wrapped the fall issue, my phone was flooded with texts, memes, and voice notes from friends sharing their excitement for the end of Oasis’s (achingly) long 15-year hiatus.
Aside from their era-defining records and enviable style, my admiration for the founding brothers is deeply tied to their honesty. As a once painfully shy teen, the Gallaghers represented true expression, they were themselves—sometimes to their detriment—and for better or for worse, put their familial disagreements on full display, making them oddly relatable.
Even though they’ve each been asked to reunite ad nauseam, they never gave in to public pressure. One could argue that the world missed out on some great Oasis records and concerts, and they’re not wrong. But I would counter that even though it took them 15 years to reconcile, the reunion is happening exactly as it’s intended, on their terms, and in their own way.
Authenticity is a buzzword that’s often overused in our day-to-day discourse. But it’s also an attribute I associate with our talented team, as well as the women we’ve had the honour of featuring in this issue.
Whether it’s the discernment of our Emmy-nominated cover star Dakota Fanning in picking roles, or the new class of food and beauty entrepreneurs challenging stereotypes in their respective industries, there’s nothing more rewarding than having agency over the path you choose to take, and the change you wish to make.
As we celebrate S Magazine’s 15th anniversary, we mark this achievement by recognizing our incredible team of collaborators, past and present, whose contributions have helped us stay faithful to our vision.
