It’s a name so synonymous with luxury hospitality that it could easily rest on its laurels, but that is not The Savoy way.
The historic London, England hotel, which dates back to 1889, has reimagined its rooms and suites for the modern age, paying homage to its past while planting itself firmly in the present.
The Savoy’s revamped Art Deco rooms incorporate subtle nods to the design movement with tasteful geometric shapes that can be found in mirrors, headboards, and finishes; and the hotel’s signature shade of green informs the opulent colour scheme. The Edwardian rooms, meanwhile, have been upgraded with an amber and ochre palette and luxurious materials including ivory silk, marble, and antique brass. Artwork celebrates the iconic performances that have taken place at the Savoy Theatre, and carpets pay quiet nod to Edwardian design codes. New tech-forward design in both styles of room include integrated lighting controls, seamless room service access, wireless charging, and colour-changing vanities.
Ever respectful of its history, The Savoy’s redesign also keeps many historical elements intact, including cornice detailing, cozy fireplaces, and grand chandeliers. A stay at The Savoy, then, is a change to revisit history. This is, after all, the hotel that has inspired creative minds from Claude Monet to Rihanna; that has played host to numerous British Royal Family members, including Princess Diana; that has welcomed long-ago icons like Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich, and new-age ones like Taylor Swift. And there is perhaps no better time to visit than over the holidays, when the hotel’s Front Hall is adorned in immersive festive decor, and food menus—from dinner to high tea—are given a seasonal twist. The only hardship, surely, will be checking out.
