S/ Was There: Power Ball XX: Carousal

On the eve of Thursday May 31st, The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery celebrated its 20th birthday with Toronto’s art bash of the year. The years theme Powerball XX: Carousal, presented by Max Mara, had partygoers transform into a one night only carnivalesque alternate reality funland.

Under the Big Top, fashion and art lovers gathered for an extravagant food and beverage experience hosted by London Based, multi-sensory design duo Bompas & Par. Upon entrance, VIP guests were taken over with a wave of deep blue bubble gum haze that unveiled a surreal cocktail reception. Curated signature cocktails by Spirit of York and second story slides took the evening to new heights. The pre-party ended with a literal bang of Flavour Cloud and confetti that welcomed attendees into the main gallery.

Installations staying true to theme, invited attendees to a truly mind-bending experience. Artist Ana Rewakowicz created conversations with her inflatable structures while Dominique Petrin brightend up the space with her technicolour dream room.

Carnival treats and decadent oysters stations filled the rooms, while out on the terrace guests were entertained with a romantic performance by Prince Innocence on the Boozer Stage. The evening came to a close as art lovers sipped, sang, and danced outdoors.
