Find Complete Serenity in New York (No, Not That New York)

New York City and tranquillity are not exactly synonymous with one another. While my love of its world-class everything will never fade, I often find myself wishing I could enjoy NYC quality restaurants and culture while avoiding traffic and tiny hotel rooms. Thankfully, just two hours north of Manhattan you can trade all of the noise yet none of the luxury at INNESS in Accord, New York.

Set on 220 unspoiled acres of Catskills countryside, INNESS takes its name from famed American landscape painter George Inness. Rolling meadows and scenic mountain ranges welcome you, and I’m certain George himself would have approved of this nod to his artistic legacy. The property features 40 thoughtfully designed rooms: 28 minimalist, yet refined cabins and a 12-room farmhouse inspired by the colonial Dutch architecture of the region. Our cabin (number 12, perfect for those seeking solitude) embodied quiet luxury with Frette bath linens, Aesop toiletries, and an elegant kitchenette complete with coffee setup by Fellow—ideal for enjoying a morning dose of caffeine on your private balcony overlooking the nearby pond. However, without question, the real luxuries found during my stay were privacy and space.

INNESS’ restaurant, perched on a ridge with enviable views, offers a culinary experience that shouldn’t be missed. Supplied by its three-acre organic farm, the menu features seasonal produce and dishes prepared in a large wood-burning oven, yielding perfectly charred steaks, vegetables, and fresh-baked bread.

This fall, INNESS expanded its already impressive list of amenities to include a luxury wellness center with a full-service spa, gym, and yoga studio. An outdoor, covered sauna deck with heated stone floors offers access to hot and cold plunge pools, all while providing stunning views of INNESS’ signature mountain landscapes. The spa’s design blends seamlessly with the natural beauty of the Catskills and emphasizes high-end, natural skincare products. During my 60-minute gua sha facial, my skin drank in Luzern’s Alpine Rose Nectar Masque and I emerged looking like the less puffy, imaginary version of myself who drinks ten glasses of water a day instead of four lattes.

In addition to the spa, the property boasts two swimming pools: a large family-friendly option and a smaller adults-only pool, both nestled amid beautifully designed grounds that perfectly straddle the line between wild and manicured. As the sun sets and temperatures drop, numerous fire pits and fireplaces are lit, creating a perfect setting to enjoy a house cocktail and connect with friendly locals (the resort doubles as an exclusive member’s club).

For those who prefer activity over pampering, INNESS also offers tennis courts, hiking trails, and a truly unique 9-hole golf course designed by the renowned King Collins Golf architects which is a must-play for golfers at any skill level.

If you wish to explore the region, it’s no secret that Hudson Valley is home to an impressive art scene, numerous historic sites and quaint towns with exceptional restaurants and shopping. However, consider day trips entirely optional as there is no such thing as too much time spent enjoying the thoughtfully created world of INNESS.
