AGO Hosts Major Emily Carr Exhibition

The Art Gallery of Ontario celebrates legendary Canadian artist Emily Carr in From the Forest to the Sea: Emily Carr in British Columbia, an exhibition guest curated by Sarah Milroy. “This exhibition presents a different view of Carr’s strengths,” says Milroy, setting it apart from the “romantic notion of Carr’s spiritual quest” most often portrayed. This exhibit focuses on Carr’s diligence, curiosity and dedication to capturing the essence of the nation and the people who once inhabited the land. Approximately 140 paintings and artefacts are on display, each reflecting her encounters with indigenous cultures. “[Carr’s] loyalty to those cultures has inspired my loyalty to her,” says Milroy.
