The Clash de Cartier Collection Introduces Its Boldest Creations Yet

Created with Cartier.

No matter how storied the legacy or fine-tuned the signature details are, even iconic designers can’t resist the chance to create something new. In 2019, Cartier did just that by launching Clash de Cartier.

The collection celebrates bold style and contrasting ideas, marrying a punk aesthetic with the brand’s refined DNA. Though the pieces–including earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, even sunglasses–are made to appear tough, they’re also crafted with fluidity in mind.

Consider the collection’s bracelet and necklace, which are offered in yellow, white, and rose gold. Both feature the line’s pointed, clou carré studs, as well as the conical, voluminous picot studs.

These versatile pieces–made from hundreds of components–include fully integrated clasps and delicate rows of studs. Despite their sharp look and texture, they’re carefully constructed to bend and move easily.

Elsewhere in the collection, the brand turns the volume way up. The studded, hoop earrings make a spiky statement. While the XL bracelet is a supersized version of the rose gold original. In keeping with the house’s tradition of working with fine jewellery, they’ve also crafted diamond-studded pieces for this collection.

The rose gold ring features a row of diamonds, flanked by studs and black onyx spheres. Their elevated take on the Clash de Cartier bracelet is an 18K rose gold chain that includes 236 brilliant-cut diamonds. Based on the variety of sizes and materials used, jewellery from this collection could easily find its way into countless looks and wardrobes.

While this modern line is relatively new, it’s inspired by key elements in Cartier’s heritage. The picot studs—which add volume to the Clash pieces—date back to jewellery the house created in the early 20th century. As their offerings expand, Cartier continues to take inspiration from the brand’s history, and explore new ways to convey the line’s rebellious spirit.
