Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau Puts Canadian Designers in the Spotlight

Canadian designers are receiving overwhelming praise after Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau (the wife of Justin Trudeau) wore their designs on a recent official visit to Washington DC.

On arrival, Sophie was wearing a custom-made pantsuit by Montréal-based designer DUY. The look was accessorized with Aldo heels and jewellery by the Toronto-based jewellery designer, Dean Davidson. Later that evening, the Prime Minister and his wife attended a reception hosted by Canada 2020, where Sophie wore a floral jacket by the Toronto contemporary womenswear brand Ellie Mae (below left).

The following day, Sophie wore a silk floral dress by Lucian Matis to an outdoor arrival ceremony, which was held on the South Lawn of the White House. A brightly-hued Aldo clutch accessorized the look with heels by Iranian-born Canadian designer Elle AyoubZadeh for her brand Zvelle (see below).

At the White House state dinner later that evening, Sophie looked stunning in a long royal-purple gown by Lucian Matis. Both Lucian Matis dresses worn over the trip are from the label’s spring/summer 2016 collection. Custom earrings by John de Jong—featuring cabochon moonstone and topaz— finished the look along with a handbag by Ela, shoes by Zvelle, and a statement ring by Dean Davidson (see the look below).

We can’t wait to see what the fashion-savvy woman wears next, and hope to see many more Canadian designs.
