When expertise in jewellery and leather goods combine to create an alluring handbag, the results are spectacular. Such is the case with the Panthère de Cartier collection, featuring golden panther motifs created by High Jewellery artisans and built into fine-leather bags.

The Panthère handbags were created in the bright and imaginative Paris design studio, where the finest metals and leathers are used in conjunction with the skills of the Maison’s High Jewellery artisans.

The Panthère C de Cartier bag offers a bold, yet feminine design. Its centerpiece is a C-shaped clasp, moulded to look like a panther and dotted with black lacquer spots. The panther is a nod to the works of Louis Cartier and Creative Director Jeanne Toussaint, who both had a fascination with animals, and brought their interpretations to the Maison’s fine jewellery.

Much like Toussaint’s designs, the clasp is a sculpted, three-dimensional shape. The Maison’s designers and High Jewellery sculptors ensured a streamlined form, creating the appearance of a leaping panther. The result is sleek, much like the feline it takes inspiration from.

Creating the clasp was a collaborative effort between Cartier’s designers and jewellers, with a hand-polished finish. The combined craftsmanship brings realism and structure to the graphic design.

For the Panthère C de Cartier caramel calfskin handbag, artisans create a palmelatto effect—a delicate grained texture—by placing paper, stuck with a fixing spray, to the leather’s surface. The calf skin is rolled and dried, creating small gentle waves over the supple surface. The Panthère C de Cartier petal pink calfskin bag has a delicate, shell-like appearance thanks to Cartier’s signature motif embossed into the leather.

Offering a more subtle play on the panther motif, the Panthère Double Handbag is a sculptural and refined style. The handles taper into the smooth golden cat, creating structure, with its sculptured head appearing to bite into the base. The wide gussets on the sides allow for an expandable shape, with two sizes available.

Cartier is committed to its sustainability mission, ensuring the origins of its leather are traceable. The result? A bag made of the finest, soft leather with elevated and sophisticated golden accents to embolden the powerful woman who wears it.
