The Michael Kors Fall/Winter 2021 collection was extra special this season, acting as both a debut for a new selection of fineries and the brand’s 40th-anniversary celebration. To celebrate this milestone, Kors wanted the show and collection to optimistically emphasize the joy of getting dressed up. The pieces were designed with special occasions in mind, utilizing fiery reds, roaring animal prints, monochrome leathers, and luxurious sequin gowns that attract the limelight. The runway showcased New York staples such as Sardi’s Restaurant, the Shubert Theatre, as well as the historic theatre district along 45th street. Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright performed “New York State of Mind” and “City Lights” in true New York fashion to tie it all together, honouring the live performance industries that have been deeply affected during the pandemic. The film starred models such as Bella Hadid, Ashley Graham, and Naomi Campbell on the runway, along with Broadway stars Billy Porter, Bette Midler, and Alan Cumming at Sardi’s. After over a year of Broadway being shut down, Kors admits “itβs an honor and a dream come true to celebrate my 40th at Shubert Theatre and to have someone as brilliantly talented as Rufus Wainwright perform live. This show is my fantasy night out,” says Kors.
