Iniye James, creative director of luxury streetwear brand Tokyo James, was inspired by amphibians —more specifically frogs— during his creative process for the brand’s fall/winter 2022 collection. Frogs show up in embroidered designs on hems and cuffs, in rich green fabric that dons structured blazers and straight-leg pants, and in James’s signature ruching detail that creates a rough finish resembling the skin of toads. Throughout the collection, James incorporated deadstock items such as sugar lace, crepe, boucle, and mohair and reworked them to create something fresh and new. In reusing these fabrics, James pays homage to the amphibian’s resilient nature, and ability to adapt to almost any circumstance. The fall/winter 2022 collection marks the brand’s first foray into womenswear and joins its established co-ed collection.
