Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2023 Collection Puts Modern French Style on Full Display

Louis Vuitton‘s Fall/Winter 2023 collection is a reflection of the ever-evolving idea of what French fashion is. Couture conventions and different cultures come together to form that ineffable style that continues to captivate and intrigue the world. In Nicolas Ghesquière‘s latest collection, he unveils a modern take on French style—sophisticated but nonchalant.

Revealed at Paris’ Musée d’Orsay, the show was an immersive sensory experience designed by renowned French artist Philippe Parreno and production designer James Chinlund. The set drew inspirtion from the streets of Paris, complete with the sound of sirens, cars honking, rain, and dogs barking, a sound illusion created by designer Nicolas Becker. The runway was lined with black geometric patterns perfectly matching the theme of the collection.

Ghesquière reinterpreted fall staples by playing with proportions, textures, and colours to express his take on modern French fashion. Oversized pleated blazers belted over textured slip dresses, exaggerated geometric cuts on dresses and coats, long knit scarves pinned with unique brooches, and embellished knee-length fur shorts filled the runway. Accessories and signature motifs are reimagined with subtle French tones of red, white, and blue.
