From Dawn to Dusk: CHANEL’s Haute Couture Colour Story

Set at the Grand Palais in Paris, CHANEL’s creative stomping ground, the brand celebrated its 110th Haute Couture anniversary with a vibrant ode to colour.

The collection honoured Gabrielle Chanel’s lifelong fascination with colour. It showcased an array of pastels, bright tones, and dark, rich fabrics. A true colourist, Gabrielle embraced every colour on the spectrum. But she was known for her radical approach to black, transforming it from a symbol of mourning and service into one of modernity.

Subtle But Bold

The collection’s colour sequence transforms from day to night. Beginning with soft whites and pastels that evoke the first peak of dawn before progressing into deeper, moodier midnight blues and black. With each look, the colour arc evolves to emulate the natural progression of a day.

The looks include a pajama-style silk crêpe set in dawn colours, a sunshine yellow tweed suit juxtaposed against black tweed, and midnight sheer silhouettes. Strikingly, the shoes follow the same colour cycle, shifting from sky blue and violet to white and cream, with flat and heeled options.

An Earthly Fairytale

As the collection fades into deeper symbolic themes, buttons made of rock crystal, metal, and rhinestones transform into moons, suns, and camellia flowers. Lunar and solar star motifs appear on black velvet belts, nodding to the everlasting significance of black to the House. These earthy and celestial details are grounded in nature, further reinforcing the connection between the colour story and the earth’s natural cycle.
