Fendi’s Latest Haute Couture Collection is a Love Letter to Rome

Drawing inspiration from the intricate architecture and the haunting history of Ancient Rome, FENDI’S Autumn/Winter 2021 Haute Couture collection finds itself at the heart and soul of the Eternal City. With the likes of Italian poet, writer, and film director Pier Paolo Pasolini in mind, artistic director Kim Jones utilized the critical lens of this iconic creative to inspire the whimsical and delicate details in this new collection. Each garment and accessory are carefully crafted with an innate attention to detail—from silky embroidered jacquards to hand-carved jewellery crafted from true Italian marble, inspired by 17th-century baroque sculptors such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini. An accompanying video by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino similarly paid homage to Pasolini’s perception of Italian allure, highlighting the sculpted silhouettes, Mother of Pearl mosaics, and intricate embroidery of each garment, as well as the arches of Ancient Rome that have been transformed into the heels of each shoe. Familiar faces such as Kate Moss are showcased in the FENDI Palazzo, playing just one part of the puzzle that makes up the diverse cast of this collection.
