Dior unleashed a sensorial fantasy with its graphic and bold Spring/Summer 2022 ready-to-wear collection. An amalgamation of history, art and fashion, the outing paid homage to the decades-long tenure of former creative director Marc Bohan. The collection carries the spirit of Bohan’s legendary Slim Look, reimagined through the lens of contemporary design. Harkening back to the discotheques of the ‘60s and ‘70s, bold swaths of yellow, lime green, cobalt blue and raspberry illuminated the stage across 87-looks. The use of modern materials, including nylon and scuba, gave an athleisure twist to iconic mod-style staples such as shift dresses and straight miniskirts. Showcasing the savoir-faire of the Maison, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri added meticulous 3D embroidery that combined textural elements with striking graphics. The runway presentation’s memorable scenography came courtesy of Italian artist and painter Anna Paparatti, complete with her signature colour blocking aesthetic, which according to Chiuri, “played the game of art once again”. This collection was a visual reawakening and unveiling of a bright post-pandemic future, one that is full of excitement and a wealth of possibilities.
