The Dior Cruise 2022 show debuted in Athens in the heart of the Panathenaic Stadium, otherwise known as Kallimármaro, with a collection inspired by the location. While always wanting to expand upon the paradigms that distinguish fashion, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri referenced photos of Monsieur Dior‘s haute couture 1951 collection, which was photographed near the Parthenon in Greece. Furthermore, the designer referenced Surrealist artist Giorgio De Chirico, whose vases featured the intertwined bodies of wrestlers, as well as legendary gallerist and art collector Alexander Iolas. These inspirations can be seen throughout the collection, which included sportif ensembles such as white gowns accessorized with sneakers, highlighting the intersection between activewear and couture craftsmanship. The show came to a close as an angelic swan dress paraded the runway amidst a firework finale, illuminating the sky and emphasizing the grandeur of the clothing on display.
