Coach debuted its Fall 2023 collection at New York Fashion Week in the Park Avenue Armory. The intimate show unveiled Creative Director Stuart Vevers‘ new vision for the iconic American fashion house. The collection was a love letter to New York City and its famously fashionable residents. The designs emphasized classic Coach house codes such as denim, leather, shearling, and knitwear while incorporating forward-looking sustainable techniques in craftsmanship. The heritage house brought a modern and youthful tone to the collection, utilizing upcycling, distressing and metallic techniques on denim, leather, and shearling staples.
Floor length and oversized silhouettes and accessories were present throughout the collection, often pairing neutral tones with electric colors, paying homage to the fashion houses’ heritage while incorporating artisanal techniques in craftsmanship such as naturally dyed chiffon dresses, upcycled leather scraps, hand-mended knits, and distressed denim. Leather goods were heavily inspired by the brand’s 2000s archives and the show introduced playfully shaped leather bags such as apples, hearts, stars and lips. New faces emerged on the runway, plucked from the streets of New York City to emphasize the new generation of Coach and the individuality the collection was inspired by.
“Fall was inspired by our belief that when you show up as you really are, you inspire others to do so, too,” said Vevers. “The collection presents an authentic interpretation of the heritage and house codes that define Coach, redefined through the next generation’s concept of individuality and expression. There’s a straightforwardness that reflects where we’re headed in the future. To bring this to life on the runway, I envisioned an intimate gathering at the Armory that would not only celebrate freedom of self-expression, but the spirit of getting together and having fun that, to me, is the heart of fashion and of New York City.”
