A Voyage From Paris to Hangzhou With CHANEL for the 2024/2025 Métiers d’art Collection

During nightfall, the CHANEL 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection unfolded like a dream. A timeless voyage set against the backdrop of Hangzhou’s West Lake, the collection weaved its way from the heart of Paris to the soul of Hangzhou in a dance of craft and couture.

The collection was uniquely inspired by antique Coromandel screens, which the brand’s founder, Gabrielle Chanel, loved to decorate her home with. Her most notable piece, which depicted scenes from everyday life set against Hangzhou’s West Lake, was displayed on the walls of her study in her apartment, making the show’s location a natural extension of the brand’s history.

Ahead of the show, a short film directed by Wim Wenders starring house ambassadors like Xin ZhileiTilda Swinton, and Leah Dou ignited creative anticipation for the collections’ thrilling reveal.

An ode to travel and dreams, this theme extends far beyond the show notes, weaving through the garments and accessories. It unfolds in travel bags, vanity cases, and a jumpsuit, featuring subtle references to the iconic Coromandel screen motif.

Floral camellia and lotus details further emphasise this reference, alongside jade green, pink, and sky blue hues that accentuate the Coromandel screen colour palette. Meanwhile, faded blue jeans emulate the metallic ripples of the lake’s surface, and the presence of darker tones signals the wood of the panels.

Signature silhouettes of long, shouldered coats versatile for day and night manifest in an array of fabrics like precious tweeds, satin, velvet, or floral embroidery. Duffle coats and short or oversized jackets are decorated with frogging by Paloma and lined with smooth silk satin. The silky pockets, pagoda sleeves, mandarin collars, and glowing braids embroidered by Atelier Montex all have a soft, subtle shine. These details, alongside exquisite layering, collide to unlock a narrative of luxury rooted in meticulous details.

The careful attention to detail is both visible and invisible, inviting the viewer to explore craftsmanship, materials, and CHANEL’s romantic elegance.
