A collage of images set the scene for the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection, shown in Paris on October 4th. Virginie Viard looked to the 1961 Alain Resnais’s film, L’Année Dernière à Marienbad, while creating this collection. The film has a special tie-in with the brand with costumes in the film designed by Coco Chanel herself.
Exploring freedom of movement and modernity, the allure-themed collection itself is a collage of bows and boas, deconstructed prints and pastel tweeds, lace and chiffon. The variety continues with rhinestone boots, sequined jackets, and sheer capes. Neutral-coloured garments in a range of silhouettes, patterns, and fabrics dominate the runway while a few pieces in pink, green, and gold stand out in between.
Browsing the pieces feels like a free stroll through fragments. A sense of being transported to an imaginary world pervades the collection.
