Celebrate a natural and luminous aesthetic this spring with a new launch from the Hermès beauty métier, Hermès Plein Air. Formulated with natural, hydrating ingredients, the collection includes Complexion Balm, Radiant Glow Powder, and Radiant Matte Powder. S/ recently spoke with the newly appointed Creative Director of Hermès Beauty Gregoris Pyrpylis about the barely-there look of the new Plein Air collection and how it can help achieve an effortless visage.
How does it feel to join Hermès as Creative Director of Hermès Beauty?
“It is a great feeling of honour, pride, and humility to join the house of Hermès as the Creative Director of Beauty. We say that Hermès beauty has existed since March 2020, but I like to think that it existed way earlier, in 1837, when the house was founded. Because that’s what the Maison knows how to do best, bringing beauty and comfort with elegance. We share the same vision of beauty—not just physical appearances, but a quest to uncover an individual’s well-being, while also conceiving objects, formulas, and gestures that will simplify beauty rituals and reveal every single facet of a woman and man. The first chapters of Hermès beauty have already been written, but there are many more to come!”
What are some of the special features and innovations of the new Hermès Plein Air collection?
“The Hermès Plein Air collection provides a fresh, light, and radiant finish, just like the feeling of a breath of fresh air against the skin. The complexion balm is an innovative formula that evens out the skin, hydrates and protects, while also enhancing a person’s skin tone. It perfectly bridges the gap between skincare and make up. It is not a tinted moisturizer nor a lightweight foundation— but rather a balm that melts into the skin, leaving it evened out and smooth with an extremely natural, almost imperceptible finish. The product is enriched with a complex of hyaluronic acid for hydration, a pair of active ingredients (Chinese skullcap and primrose extract) for protection against environmental aggressors, and white mulberry tree extract with antioxidant action. The powders are very light, non-drying, and are enriched with emollients that provide extreme smoothness while improving adhesion for a long lasting and comfortable wear.”
What would you say is the signature Hermès Beauty look?
“I don’t think I can generalize the image of the brand in only one signature look and that’s because through Hermès Beauty we wish to accompany women and men in their everyday lives, offering them the tools to express all the facets of their personality. What I can say for sure is that high quality ingredients, excellence in textures and colour propositions, as well as an aspect of care, will always be characteristics of the Hermès Beauty object.”
How are the products in this new collection best worn?
“The complexion balm is best worn and applied with the hand as you would apply a moisturizer. The powders can be worn on bare skin after a moisturizer or after your complexion balm to mattify or illuminate the complexion. And of course, you can continue with your favourite Rose and Rouge Hermès objects to express yourself and your mood through colour, reflecting how you are feeling the moment you apply your makeup!”
If you had to choose three Hermès Beauty products for a radiant spring look, what would they be?
“Choosing three products is always a tough task but I’ll make the effort for you! I would definitely select the Complexion Balm for a fresh and radiant complexion, Rose Hermès blush in ‘Rose Pommette‘ to add a touch of a vivid and luminous pink on the high points of the cheeks and using light brushstrokes on the bridge of the nose and the forehead. I’d finish the look with ‘Rose Nymphéa’ from our limited-edition Rouge Hermès Spring Summer 2022 collection for the most beautiful rosy lip colour of the season!”
