By now, the word ‘skincare’ is probably part of your everyday vocabulary—it encapsulates products you love, viral hauls on TikTok, and daily routines. So too with the word wellness, which has become increasingly popular as we become more aware of the power of self-care practices and rituals.
But when you combine these two commonplace words, you achieve something novel. Skin wellness is the cornerstone of the brand ELEMIS, a leading luxury British skincare that has finally made its way across the pond—launching in Canada earlier this year.

Here, Gabriel speaks to us about the brand’s beginnings, how the industry is changing, and the brand’s secret sauce (their Tri-Enzyme Technology).
Ebonie Walker: ELEMIS started in 1989. Now 35 years later the industry is at a completely different place than it was. What’s something that’s shocked you the most about the change or growth of the industry?
Noella Gabriel: “I’m truly amazed by how the skincare and beauty industry has evolved over the years. One of the most striking changes has been the level of education and awareness that consumers now have about skincare. Years ago, the idea of skincare as self-care wasn’t nearly as mainstream. Today, people are more informed, more discerning, and more passionate about what goes into their products and how they align with their values.”
“But beyond the technology and trends, what has been remarkable is the shift in how beauty is seen. It’s no longer just about vanity. it’s about holistic well-being. Skincare is intertwined with mental health, self-care, and overall wellness. That deeper understanding of beauty has been transformative for the industry—and I’m proud that Elemis has been a part of that journey.”
Why do you think ELEMIS has been able to stand the test of time and remain so popular?
“I believe the reason ELEMIS has stood the test of time and continues to thrive is rooted in our commitment to quality, innovation, and a deep understanding of the needs of our customers. From the very beginning, we made it our mission to create products that not only deliver visible results but also offer an experience—products that engage the senses and elevate the skincare ritual.”

In 2006 the brand patented the Tri-Enzyme Technology. What makes this technology so special and what results can we expect from using it?
“Our Tri-Enzyme Technology is a combination of three exfoliating enzymes: Papain, Protease and Subtilisin. This proprietary blend gently accelerates the skin’s natural cell turnover, resurfacing and retexturing the skin for a complexion that’s smoother and more even. At ELEMIS, skin health is at the heart of everything we do, which is why we needed to create a complex that delivers visible results in an effective yet harmonious way.”
You were acquired by L’Occitane just over four years ago. You also expanded internationally once again to Canada through Sephora. How does it feel to see the brand continue to grow?
“Seeing ELEMIS expand into new markets, like Canada through Sephora, is incredibly rewarding. It’s a true testament to the loyalty and trust we’ve built with our customers over the years. We’ve always been passionate about creating products that truly make a difference, and as we continue to grow internationally, it’s wonderful to witness such a positive response to our products and brand.”
What is next for the ELEMIS? What are you looking forward to?
“We’re incredibly excited about what the future holds. We’re in a period of significant transformation and growth, which includes a brand refresh that we believe will elevate the brand to new heights. We’re always exploring new ways to elevate the experience we offer our customers—whether that’s through cutting-edge product formulations, improved packaging sustainability, or tapping into new trends in wellness and beauty.”
