Beauty Radar: Spring Products You Need to Know

Internal Renewal

The scientific prowess and cosmetic innovation of Dior Skincare is nowhere better epitomized than in its Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy line. A prestigious project that has been underway for 30 years, the five-product collection showcases the brand’s major discovery regarding stem cells, completed in partnership with Nobel Prize–winning professor Shinya Yamanaka. Dior Science, Yamanaka, and his team at the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application at Kyoto University discovered that stem cells—the source of all tissues and regeneration in the body—decrease in energy potential over time, rather than in number. This valuable insight is the catalyst behind the C.E.L.L. (Cutting-Edge Long-Lasting) Energy range, which restores cellular energy to reinvigorate skin with youthful radiance from within. “All the parts really clicked together like a perfect puzzle,” says Edouard Mauvais-Jarvis, Dior’s scientific communication and environmental director. “We developed an expertise that is quite groundbreaking, but we also found the right ingredients and included it in a product that is amazingly sensorial.” Medically advanced science and the natural power of four regenerative flowers are the backbone of the high-performance line, which contains a serum, creme, gentle cleanser, serum-lotion, and eye cream. Capture Totale is fronted by Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, whose environmental activism is in line with the collection’s 80 percent natural-ingredient formulas and eco-friendly packaging.

The Eyes Have It

Chanel welcomes to its beauty roster three new innovative products that have been extensively researched to take eye makeup to the next level. The New Eyes Collection boasts a revolutionary volume mascara, Le Volume Stretch de Chanel, with a 3D-printed elastic brush that allows for movement in all directions and precision application. Le Liner de Chanel introduces a unique smudge-free formula inspired by latex technology and an extra thin flexible felt tip. In addition to mascara and eyeliner, the collection also features an eyebrow product; La Palette Sourcils contains two textures—a sculpting matte wax colours the brow line, while the smooth powder softens the brow for a defined yet natural look—as well as four brow tools.

Nightly Reset

KORA Organics is once again harnessing the power of its hero ingredient noni—a small fruit-bearing evergreen tree with medicinal properties—in a new multi-benefit night serum. The Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum also employs other nutrient-rich natural wonders like Sicilian white grapes, lemon peel ferment, and caviar lime extract to resurface skin, reveal a natural glow, and reduce dullness and hyperpigmentation. The universal product is ideal for all skin types due to its gentle nature and certified organic ingredients, which are natural sources of exfoliating AHAs and BHAs. KORA Organics founder and Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr uses the serum nightly and shares that it is “energized with amethyst and rose quartz crystals to help bring a soothing and calming energy to your nighttime skincare routine.”

KORA Organics Noni Night AHA Resurfacing Serum is available at Sephora, sephora.ca, and koraorganics.com.

Spirit of the Rainforest

Environmentally minded Chantecaille’s Spring collection celebrates and gives back to the Amazon Rainforest. This season’s Lip Chic range contains four limited-edition shades that are all named after the favourite flowers of Amazonian hummingbirds: Lupine, Coral Bell, Passion Flower, and Honeysuckle. The soothing formula delivers punchy and vibrant colour while remaining comfortable, and its supple texture produces a subtle plumping effect on the lips. Proceeds from the Spring 2020 Lip Chic collection—housed in the brand’s signature magnetic cases, each embellished with a hummingbird in a lively iridescent hue—will go toward helping the ASOMI Indigenous women’s association buy back 75 acres of their home in the Colombian Amazon. The team is committed to preserving habitat for biodiversity and global climate regulation, as well as allowing the rainforest to remain in the hands of its original guardians—namely, Indigenous female elders and shaman–healers.

Chantecaille Limited-Edition Lip Chic is available at Holt Renfrew.

Nostalgia Ultra

Maison Louis Vuitton has reimagined its iconic Heures d’Absence perfume nearly a century after its inaugural launch. The 1927 fragrance was named after the Vuitton family’s country home in France’s idyllic Seine-et- Marne region, and was created to evoke a spirit of adventure and celebrate new modes of transportation. Unlike the original bottle, which was engraved with an airplane, the modern design is a sleek and simple flacon that is shared by all 11 fragrances in the Parfums Louis Vuitton universe. Master perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud was given a clean slate to reinvent the 1927 scent, as the formula was lost long ago, and chose to interpret the contemporary version as an ode to daydreams, great escapes, and the fresh flowers that bloom in Grasse. Utilizing the house’s exclusive CO2 extraction technique, lush florals like Grasse jasmine, May rose, and mimosa from the village of Tanneron blend harmoniously in their purest and most delicate forms to craft this sophisticated fragrance.

Louis Vuitton Eau de Parfum Heures d’Absence is available at select Louis Vuitton stores and at louisvuitton.com.
