Inside the Jaguar Type 01 World Premiere in New York

It was a one-of-a-kind night in a one-of-a-kind city.

On October 6, Jaguar chose New York City as the backdrop for the world premiere of Type 01. Held at STORIED in West Chelsea, the evening introduced the first production vehicle of the brand’s reimagined era.

Actress Florence Pugh made her debut as Jaguar’s inaugural ambassador for this new chapter. New York Knicks center and NBA champion Karl-Anthony Towns attended with his wife, model and entrepreneur Jordyn Woods, while British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro delivered a surprise performance.

At the centre of it all was an all-electric, four-door grand tourer whose proportions command attention. A long bonnet and low roofline create instant drama, with sculpted surfaces playing with light and shadow. Its Visionary Silk satin paint shifts between cool and warm silver, complemented by brass-inspired fender detailing.

Television host Cat Williams was on the ground, speaking with JLR Canada president Rory Beattie about balancing reinvention with heritage. “We stayed true to our heritage with our design cues,” he said, emphasising the engineering and driving dynamics that remain distinctly Jaguar.

That commitment is embodied by the “Impossible Panel,” an aluminium body panel stretching from the windscreen to the rear and sculpted over the rear wheels. Its complex shape initially defied manufacturing capabilities. Beattie explained that an engineer returned from retirement to help make it possible, preserving the designers’ vision.

For a premiere celebrating originality, it was a fitting detail: behind Type 01’s striking exterior is a determination to turn creative ambition into reality.
