This week, from the 24th – 26th of October, Porsche SCOPES is making its 10th stop in Toronto, Canada. With previous activations in cities like Amsterdam, Tokyo, and Seoul—the three-day-long festival celebrates the local creative community, showcasing a wide range of talent in fashion, art, design, music, and tech. The event is free of charge (RSVP required) and will host performances and installations by artists like Steff Eleoff, BAMBII, Chippy Nonstop, Sadboi, Tia Wood, and so many more!
The invitation for the event was designed by CAFA winner for Emerging Accessories Designer of the Year, Steff Eleoff—Founder and Designer of the Epydomous Jewelry label, STEFF ELEOFF.
With a background in sculpture and fine art, Eleoff’s designs take inspiration from architecture and nature—resulting in captivating free-flowing shapes which seductively decorate the body. Eleoff launched her company in 2020 and quickly gained a cult following, soon her designs appeared on the likes of Kylie Jenner, Doja Cat, and Halle Bailey (to name a few).
After taking home the win for Emerging Accessory Designer of the Year at the 2024 CAFA Awards, we chatted with Eleoff about her upcoming installation at Porsche SCOPES, how her community impacts her work, and how the intersection of fashion and art resonates with her.
SG: What was the process behind creating your design for the Porsche SCOPES invitation?
Steff Eleoff: “It was super seamless. The moment they proposed having STEFF ELEOFF make the invitations, I knew I wanted to create a key. I wanted people to feel like they were getting the keys to their own Porsche, something that would make them feel special and that they could wear or keep forever. It was also important to create a foreshadowing moment for what to expect at the event, so the drips became a key design element – something we’re known for.
Your art installation will be open to the public at Porsche SCOPES from October 24th to 26th. Can you explain what inspired this installation?
“The installation is inspired by and is a direct replica of, our iconic Sedona ring. I designed this ring five years ago when I first learned to be a silversmith. I’m constantly inspired by Earth’s terrain and the patterns and textures found on the surface of our planet. The Sedona ring, named after Sedona, Arizona, captures that sand dune-desert-like terrain in its shape and has been our best seller ever since.”
Being a designer and artist from Toronto, how does the community in this city impact your work and art?
“It’s awesome to see something we’ve created showcased in real life, especially in the city where we launched the brand. The STEFF ELEOFF world is mostly online, and without a storefront, I value the chance to interact with the community and my fellow artists. The community here is supportive, and getting to see their reactions to my art in person will feel so special!”
What is it about the intersection of fashion and art that resonates with you?
“Our entire mission at STEFF ELEOFF is to create wearable art for the everyday. I want to make sculptures that people can wear and keep with them forever, pieces that help them feel confident. Art is deeply connected to emotion, and I’m obsessed with creating pieces that make people feel hot and cool.”
You typically work with metals at a small scale, creating wearable pieces of art and jewelry. How did working at such a large scale push you out of your comfort zone?
“This was so fun! I feel like if something is a good design, it can be blown up huge or made really tiny, and it will still resonate with people. We wanted to see if our best-selling ring could have that same effect on a large scale when confronted in a room. How will people feel? Will they like it? Will they hate it? The unknown is out of my comfort zone and it excites me.”
Why do you create?
“I started creating because it was therapy for me. Now I create because I have a bigger goal in mind: to bring uniqueness and artistry to the jewelry world.”
You recently won the CAFA award for Emerging Designer in Accessories! Congratulations! What has been your proudest moment since launching your brand?
“The proudest moment since launching my brand would have to be a tie between working with Porsche SCOPES, as well as winning the CAFA award. I feel like anything to do with celebrating my team, and the growth we’ve had (big or small) is an exciting milestone. A lot of firsts have happened this month!”
