On September 7th, TIFF held its annual TIFF Tribute Awards with first-time presenting sponsor, Rolex. Being as equally passionate about playing a role in supporting cinema and growing talent as TIFF, this is an important partnership for Rolex. Now in its 7th year, the annual event and fundraiser stands as an opportunity to celebrate innovation in the industry and champion change-makers in cinema. This year’s Honorary Chair, Brendan Fraser, and TIFF CEO, Cameron Bailey kicked off the evening with speeches commemorating the festival’s 50th milestone.

A star-studded lineup of talent, such as Oscar Isaac, Ben Safdie, and Tessa Thompson, presented the awards to this year’s honourees, which included TIFF Ebert Director Award recipient Guillermo del Toro, Academy award-winner Jodie Foster for The TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award, and TIFF Tribute Performer Award to Channing Tatum, whose Roofman co-star Kirsten Dunst attended the event in support.

While accepting his TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media, Idris Elba added “think about the word impact. It’s another way to say feeling,” encouraging others to think how they can make an impact within their own work.
