Canadian shoe designer George Sully has launched the first-ever interactive Canadian Black Designer Index. Black Designers of Canada strives to highlight and celebrate Black designers, eliminating excuses for exclusion and providing a voice for designers in the Black community who have faced ignorance or systemic prejudices in the fashion industry. Sully recognizes the prolonged wait. “The last thing I thought is that I’d be making history by doing something that’s such a no-brainer. An index of Canadian Black designers should have never been such a far-fetched idea in the first place.” The index promises to amplify Black designers in all areas, and calls on members of the public to submit their favourite Black designers to be featured.
