Artist Marina Abramovic’s Limited Edition Tableware

Marina Abramovic was a pioneer of performance art in the early 1970s, and has remained influential in the art world ever since. She is the latest artist to collaborate with French porcelain brand Bernardaud (following collaborations with names such as Jeff Koons and Kara Walker).

Her mismatched eight-piece collection is titled “Misfits for the Table,” because life is not perfect, and therefore tableware shouldn’t be either. The plates come in varying shapes, sizes and colours.

The designs are minimal in look, but personal in nature. From the wolf eating the lamb (an old symbol that represents the noble warrior crest of her family), to the golden lips (inspired by her 2009 photograph of the same name), to the star-shaped plates (representative of her childhood in Yugoslavia, where the communist star was everywhere), the all of the imagery reflects who she is.

The collection launches at The Museum of Modern Art on February 3, 2015 with a champagne reception, and each set of four will be available for $580 exclusively at the MoMA Design Store in New York.
