Uptown and Downtown collide for Michael Kors’ #MKGO Graffiti Capsule Collection

The collision between uptown and downtown New York in 1981 encapsulated Michael Kors’ newest limited-edition collection, #MKGO Graffiti Capsule Collection. “We started fooling around with the whole idea of thinking about when I started. I mean, it’s 1981 and the energy—art, fashion, theatre—all of the creativity cross pollinating and I think we’re seeing that again”, Kors told Candy Pratts Price.

Candy Pratts Price is the former Creative Director of all Bloomingdales window displays and was fashion director at Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and Style.com. For the #MKGO Graffiti Collection, Price directed remarkable Michael Kors x Candy Pratts Price window displays for select Michael Kors locations. With a floor-to-ceiling screen print of Michael Kors in his iconic aviators, there are rotating mannequins in the #MKGO Graffiti Collection taking selfies of them with the designer himself.

The collection itself is composed of limited-edition black and white graffiti prints on jackets, shoes, and bags, inspired by the ‘80s art scene in New York. “Artists like Fab 5 Freddy and Jean-Michel Basquiat showed their work at PS 1, and yet you’d still be just as likely to find their signatures on the side of a building in the LES or your subway car. Today, that mix of high/low is everything”, said Kors.
