5 Spring 2018 Beauty Launches That Should Be on Your Radar

LIP SERVICE

A makeup artist staple backstage during fashion weeks, Dior’s coveted lip balm, Dior Lip Glow, has been a fan favourite ever since its initial release back in 2009. Laced with ultra-hydrating mango butter and cranberry oil, the next-level lip tint reacts to your lips’ unique pH level, resulting in a customized flush of irresistible colour. This season, the House of Dior has added two finishes and six fresh hues to its lip-care-meets-makeup star. There’s the holographic finish that enhances lips with a touch of iridescence and comes in a shimmery rose and lilac, while the velvety matte sticks available in a soft pink and vivid magenta offer a flattering blurring effect. An a aficionado of Lip Glow’s classic dewy satin finish? Swipe on the new raspberry and bright pink tints. Dior Lip Glow is available at Dior counters.

SKIN REBOOT

Shiseido would like to reintroduce itself. 2018 marks the beginning of a major brand refresh for the Japanese skincare giant, starting with its brand-new range, Essential Energy. Free from mineral oil and parabens, the line is formulated specifically to address the appearance of fine lines, and increase smoothness and radiance in skin that’s become unresponsive to its regular skincare regimen. Doubling down on science, Essential Energy is composed of three different variations of one moisturizer (depending on your preferred texture, there’s an AM/PM lightweight gel and a silky-soft cream, or a daytime cream with SPF 20), all supercharged with Shiseido’s powerful compound, ReNeura Technology. Rooted in neuroscience and packed with regenerative Japanese ashitaba plant extract, the patented complex works to trigger sensory nerves in the skin to help maximize its responsiveness to skincare, while boosting skin’s natural ability to detect and adapt to environmental aggressors and visible changes, including lines and uneven complexion. The goal is to prevent damage in real time. On top of this high-tech, age-delaying innovation, Essential Energy’s formula blends floral notes of rose and jasmine with pear, plum, and sweet orange for a soothing fragrance proven to help kick stress to the curb. Shiseido’s Essential Energy range is available at Nordstrom.

MAKEUP FIX

Tokyo-based skincare and colour cosmetics brand Decorté made its Canadian debut back in 2016 with its super-luxe skincare. Sold exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue, the J-beauty company has leveraged vitamin-rich infusions, effective anti-aging ingredients, and impressive science-backed research (Decorté works alongside Nobel Prize–winning scientists) to make its products widely popular among the beauty and skin-obsessed across Asian markets. Now, Decorté has further expanded its North American reach by bringing its makeup offering to the department store’s beauty counters. From a serum-like highlighter to lustrous eyeshadows to an all-in-one brow compact, the colour range is brimming with ultra-chic makeup essentials that we can’t wait to get our hands on. Decorté’s makeup collection is available exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue.

DON’T SWEAT IT

Wearing makeup to the gym has polarizing opinions, but let’s face it—there are dozens of different reasons why women choose to wear makeup while working out. For those who desire to enhance their beauty while gyming it, Clinique’s humidity-resistant CliniqueFit collection works with your skin before, during, and after your sweat sesh to help you stay clear of breakouts and clogged pores. The seven-piece assortment includes a lightweight foundation with SPF 40, an oil-free lip-and-cheek tint for those who enjoy the look of a bit of rouge, and post-workout essentials like exfoliating cleaning wipes for removing impurities, a cooling hydrating spray, and a redness-and-shine-neutralizing face powder. Love to run but don’t want your mascara to? Reach for Clinique’s volumizing lash formula, which wears for 24 smudge-free hours. With these exercise-compatible go-tos, wearing makeup while you sweat no longer has to be a “should you/shouldn’t you” debate. CliniqueFit is available at Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques.

MANE ATTRACTION

Known for its premium skincare formulated with exceptional, high-grade botanicals, French beauty brand Sisley Paris has harnessed its expertise in plant extracts and the function of skin cells and extended it to the scalp with the release of its first-ever haircare collection, Hair Rituel. Made with a powerful concentration of botanical extracts, essential oils, minerals, vitamins, and proteins (think: moisturizing shea and macadamia oil, purifying sage, and stimulating rice proteins), the luxurious six-piece line is designed to energize the scalp right at the hair bulb where the hair grows, while simultaneously rebuilding the hair fibre. Sulfate-free, Hair Rituel functions as a complete system, with certain treatment products tailored to specific hair needs: for hair that craves extra strength, lift, and bounce, the volumizing shampoo and 10-minute regenerative mask (this deep-conditioning treatment works beautifully on all hair types, FYI) are easily followed by the hair-thickening serum. For those looking to tame more thick, unruly, fragile texture, go for the gentle smoothing shampoo and breakage- fighting restructuring conditioner, and finish off your new hair ritual with the antioxidant-rich hair oil (our personal standout in the collection) for a major radiance boost. Hair Rituel by Sisley Paris is available at Holt Renfrew.
